Every update, in one place
Preview that always plays
Playback no longer goes quiet after you've been in another audio app, and the play button no longer gets stuck.
- Sound comes back after you've been in your DAW — Stack notices when another app has taken over the audio device and reconnects to it.
- The play button no longer stops responding when you retrigger the same sample quickly.
- Pressing play restarts a sample from the beginning; the spacebar still resumes where you paused.
- The playing sample's waveform now sits in the player bar — click along it to jump.
One-shots and loops, sorted out
Filtering by One-Shots or Loops now covers your whole library instead of a fraction of it.
- Nearly every sample is now marked as a one-shot or a loop — the filter used to recognize about one in six.
- Kick, snare, hat, clap and the rest appear in the Instruments list, so you can narrow to a sound in one click.
- Folder names like “one-shots” no longer turn up as instruments.
- FL Studio and Ableton projects show their own icon in the list.
- Drag a sample onto Favorites, or onto one of your favorite folders, to file it.
Search that answers what you asked
Search was quietly rewriting your words into other words. It no longer does.
- Search looks for what you typed, not for words that merely resemble it — no more unrelated results crowding out the ones you wanted.
- Results come back faster, especially on the first few letters.
- A new search clears your filters, so nothing is hidden by a BPM or key you set earlier.
- Enter closes the suggestions list.
- The search term sits above the results, with one click to clear it.
Your Splice library, in Stack
Stack finds your Splice downloads and puts every sound in one browsable view.
- Stack finds your Splice folder on its own — one click imports every account it finds.
- All your Splice sounds in one view, with the usual search, filters, waveforms and player. Narrow to a single pack from the Pack menu.
- Watched Folders in Settings is now a grid, and removing one asks first.
- Removing a folder mid-scan no longer brings it back.
Playback keeps going while you browse
A playing sample no longer stops when you search, open another pack, or switch tabs.
- Audition a sample and keep browsing — searching, changing pack or switching tabs no longer cuts it off.
- A dropped connection while checking a file no longer stops what you are listening to.
Built for phones
Opening Stack in a browser on a phone now gives you a real mobile layout instead of a squeezed desktop one.
- The sidebar becomes a slide-out menu on phones, so the library gets the full screen.
- Player bar keeps artwork, title and a large play button within thumb reach; key and tempo move onto the title line.
- Filters scroll sideways instead of stacking into a tall wall of buttons.
- Buttons and rows are bigger and easier to tap.
- Sample details open as a full-screen sheet rather than a cramped side panel.
- Nothing changes on desktop.
QR code fix
The Web access QR code was cut off, and the section had more explaining than it needed.
- Fixed the QR code being clipped — it now scales to fit and scans properly.
- Trimmed the wording in Web access settings.
Browser access fixes & a QR code for your phone
Opening Stack in a browser over the network works properly now, and Settings shows a QR code you can point a phone camera at.
- Fixed Stack failing to load when opened in a browser from another device.
- Scan to open: the Web access section now shows a QR code for the network link, so you can open your library on a phone without typing a long address.
Browse your library from any device
Open Stack in a browser on your phone, tablet or another computer on the same network — with a new Web access section in Settings that gives you the exact link to use.
- New Web access section in Settings: turn browsing on or off, pick the port, and copy the link.
- Optionally allow other devices on your network, so you can browse and audition your library from a phone, tablet or laptop.
- Links are protected by an access token, so only someone with your link can reach your library. Opening the link once is enough — the browser remembers it.
- The link for other devices shows your computer's network address, so there is no guessing at IP addresses.
- Turning network access on or off applies immediately, without restarting Stack.
- README now explains browser access, and answers the Docker question: Stack is a desktop app and cannot run in a container, but browser access covers the same use case.
Artwork fixes — and Stack stops touching your folders
Covers show up again, your macOS folder icons are used as artwork, and Stack no longer rewrites the icons of every subfolder inside a pack.
- Fixed pack and project covers showing as a broken image.
- Stack no longer changes the Finder icon of every subfolder inside a pack. Setting one cover used to copy the image into every folder below it and rebrand each one — in one project that was 27 copies of the same image, 61MB, across 64 folders.
- Subfolders still show their pack's artwork, but nothing is written into them any more.
- A one-time cleanup runs on this update: it removes those duplicate copies and restores the folder icons Stack changed, keeping the cover you actually chose.
- If you set a custom folder icon in macOS Get Info, Stack now uses it as that pack's artwork.
- Removing artwork no longer deletes a folder icon you set yourself — it only clears the one Stack applied.
Updates inside the app & a playback fix
Stack now updates itself — no more trips to the website — and audio no longer goes silent after the app has been sitting in the background.
- Updates install from inside Stack: it downloads in the background while you keep working, then applies on a single Restart click.
- This is the last version you will need to download by hand. From here on, updates arrive in the app automatically.
- Fixed audio going silent after Stack had been open in the background for a long time — macOS was interrupting the audio engine and it never recovered. It now reconnects on its own when you come back to the app.
Smarter search, genre filtering & a much faster browser
Search now forgives typos and suggests what your library actually contains, genres are detected and filterable for the first time, and browsing a large library is dramatically faster.
- Search understands typos — look for "vocalz" or "guitr" and Stack finds vocals and guitars, using the real words in your own library.
- Suggestions as you type, popular searches when the box is empty, and a helpful panel instead of a blank page when nothing matches.
- New Genre filter — Stack detects genres from your folder structure, so house, future bass, techno and more are filterable out of the box.
- Instruments and Genres are proper multi-select lists with live counts, and a filter box when the list is long.
- New One-Shots & Loops filter.
- Redesigned key picker with flat and sharp layouts — and keys now match regardless of whether a pack spells a note Db or C#.
- One search bar instead of two: the browser toolbar duplicate is gone, and the main one no longer falls out of sync.
- MIDI previews sound like a real instrument — richer, fuller and far louder, especially on chords. The piano roll now follows your theme and accent colour.
- Filtering is around 10x faster, opening a folder is effectively instant, and scrolling long lists is much smoother.
- Samples show a pointer cursor, and the shuffle and sort controls were tidied up.
Compact view, custom columns & Intel Mac support
Browse big libraries faster with a compact list view and columns you choose yourself, your sort order now survives restarts, and Stack finally runs on Intel Macs.
- Intel Mac support — the macOS download is now a universal build that runs on both Apple Silicon and Intel.
- Compact list view — denser rows that fit far more samples on screen. Toggle it in Settings or from the column header.
- Choose your columns — right-click the column header to show or hide Waveform, Time, Key, BPM and the new Folder column.
- New Folder column shows where each sample lives, and clicking it jumps straight to that folder.
- Your sort order is remembered between sessions — no more resetting to Most Recent on every launch.
- Sorting by Name now starts A to Z, and Most Recent starts newest first.
- Click a folder in the sidebar to open and expand it — no need to hit the small arrow. Expanded folders are remembered too.
- Fixed column headers showing Waveform, Key or BPM labels when those columns were turned off.
Click-to-play samples & cover fixes
Audition samples by clicking anywhere on a row, jump straight to a spot in the waveform, and pack covers now save reliably — including drag-and-drop from Finder.
- Click anywhere on a sample row to play it — no need to aim for the play button.
- Click a point on any waveform to start playing from exactly there, even if that sample isn't playing yet.
- Fixed the list jumping when clicking samples near the bottom or top of the view.
- Pack cover: dragging an image from Finder onto the cover editor now works.
- Pack cover: a newly saved cover no longer stays hidden behind the placeholder icon.
Plugins page: search & table view
The Plugins page now reads like a proper table — aligned columns with a header row — and has instant search across plugin names, vendors, and paths.
- Search your plugins instantly by name, vendor, or install path.
- New table layout with a column header — Format, Name, Vendor, Path, Size, and Type line up in proper grid rows.
- The plugin counter shows how many match your current search and filter.
Plugin manager: smart uninstall & Windows support
The Plugins page now finds every plugin automatically — VST, VST3, AU, CLAP and AAX on macOS and Windows — and can fully uninstall a plugin, sweeping up presets, preferences, caches and other leftovers.
- Delete any plugin right from the Plugins page — Stack finds its leftovers (presets, preferences, caches, vendor data, even iCloud copies) and shows exactly what will be removed before anything is touched.
- Deleting one format offers the others too — remove the VST3 and the AU / VST / AAX copies of the same plugin can go with it.
- Files in system folders are removed with a single administrator prompt.
- CLAP and AAX plugins are now detected alongside VST, VST3 and AU.
- Full Windows support — all standard folders plus the registry-configured VST2 path are scanned, and registry leftovers are cleaned up on uninstall.
- Plugin rows now show vendor, size on disk, and which other formats are installed.
- No more folder hunting — every standard plugin location is scanned out of the box; extra folders moved to Settings → Plugins.
Massive indexing & search speed-up
A ground-up performance pass for huge libraries: indexing is over 15x faster, search runs on a real full-text index, and duplicate samples no longer vanish from your packs.
- Indexing overhaul — a 290GB library with 164,000 files now indexes in about 2 minutes instead of 30+.
- Instant search — queries hit a full-text index instead of scanning every entry, so results stay snappy even in six-figure libraries.
- Duplicate samples fixed — byte-identical files in different packs each keep their own entry instead of silently replacing each other.
- Killed the hidden re-index loop that made Stack re-process thousands of duplicated files on every launch.
- Browsing and deep scrolling are dramatically faster thanks to a new sort index.
- Lower memory use while indexing — huge DAW project files no longer spike RAM.
- Ableton .als project info is now read correctly.
Favorites folders & drag-to-organize
